Building Capacity: The Case of Supporting Students Impacted by FASD

Description:

Supporting all students in our schools is challenging; the observed increase in diversity of student’ needs in our schools has added to this challenge. Recent forums have linked this challenge with teacher burnout and teachers leaving the profession. Schools that create an ethos of inclusion and working together, appear to excel in addressing the diversity of student need. This presentation will outline several attributes to building a strong, collaborative school ethos. Using the work around supporting students impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), this presentation will identify how school communities can build capacity to address diverse needs of all students.

This webinar is hosted by Learning with FASD (www.learningwithfasd.org.au) and delivered by Professor David Evans. David Evans is Professor of Special and Inclusive Education at the Sydney School of Education and Social Work. He teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as supervises research students across a range of areas. His main research interest surrounds the provision of quality inclusive education where all students have access to the general curriculum alongside their peers in the neighbourhood school. This work takes place in Australia and the region.
