WRaP 2.0: Supporting Educators, Strengthening Classrooms, Empowering Schools

Let the school year begin!

As classrooms come alive with fresh energy and new possibilities, we’re also stepping into the final school year of WRaP 2.0, the FASD Coaching Partnership Project. Since 2021, WRaP 2.0 has been a province-wide collaboration between Alberta’s Ministries of Education and Assisted Living and Social Services and the 12 Alberta FASD Service Networks (fasdalberta.ca).

This final year is our opportunity to celebrate the growth, learning, and resilience that WRaP 2.0 has fostered across Alberta’s education system. The 2.0 project officially concludes on June 30, 2026, making this school year a capstone moment.

What is WRaP 2.0?

At its heart, WRaP 2.0 is about supporting education staff. Through the project, FASD Instructional Coaches work alongside teachers, educational assistants, and administrators. These coaches:

  • Provide professional learning on FASD foundations and practical classroom, teaching, and transition strategies,
  • Offer “at the elbow” coaching, modeling practices and helping staff build confidence,
  • Support educators through key student transitions (from grade changes to daily routines),
  • Connect schools and staff to community resources through their local FASD Network.

It’s a hands-on, relationship-driven model designed to give educators the tools and encouragement they need to help students with FASD succeed.

The Role of the FASD Service Networks

The success of WRaP 2.0 rests on the strong foundation of Alberta’s 12 FASD Service Networks (fasdalberta.ca). These Networks provide prevention, diagnosis, and lifelong supports for individuals and families impacted by FASD.

Through WRaP 2.0, the Networks are home to the Instructional Coaches who work directly with education staff. This ensures that teachers are not navigating challenges alone—they’re backed by a community of knowledge, strategies, and supports.

Why This Final Year Matters

As we enter the last school year of WRaP 2.0, ending June 30, 2026, the focus is on:

  • Celebrating progress: acknowledging the impact on classrooms and staff capacity,
  • Sharing knowledge: equipping schools to carry forward FASD-informed practices,
  • Building legacies: sustaining partnerships between educators and FASD Networks beyond the project timeline.

Let’s Keep the Momentum

This year, let’s make WRaP 2.0’s final chapter its strongest. Education staff, caregivers, and community partners can:

Together, We’ve Made a Difference

WRaP 2.0 has powerfully illustrated the incredible strength of collaboration: when we uplift our educators, students with FASD not only thrive, but they illuminate the classrooms, making them vibrant spaces of learning and growth. The ripple effects extend beyond the classroom, enriching our entire communities. As we embrace this final year with enthusiasm and hope, let us throw open the doors to a new school year and commit to making it truly unforgettable!
