This study explores a promising new approach to protecting developing embryos from the harmful effects of alcohol exposure during pregnancy, a major cause of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Using zebrafish as a research model, the study examines how the anti-inflammatory drug benzydamine may help reduce alcohol-related damage by reducing oxidative stress and preventing developmental abnormalities.
FASD has no cure, and prevention remains the best strategy. However, this research highlights potential medical interventions that could lessen alcohol’s harmful effects on early development. By identifying protective treatments, studies like this could lead to future breakthroughs in reducing FASD-related impairments.
