The article “Expectations and Concerns of Adoptive Families of Children With Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder” (Gómez-Santabrigída et al., 2025) explores the lived experiences of 101 adoptive parents in Spain raising children and adults with FASD. Most families had limited, or no, information about FASD at the time of adoption, and many received diagnoses years later. The study examines how parents perceive their child’s adaptation (emotionally, socially, within family life and health), their expectations for the future, and their satisfaction with professional supports. A key finding is that families report greater hope and more positive assessments when diagnosis occurs earlier and when they have access to specialized associations rather than traditional service systems.
